Teamwork, teamwork
While not the worst idea I ever had, overlapping week 1 of half-marathon training with moving madness was not ideal. That I managed to fit in 5 days of working out anyway, I think is a huge victory, even though my meals have been rather random and I didn’t get in all the miles I wanted. I completely credit having plans for dance class and the Do Life 5K where otherwise I might have bagged it...

Doing Life
I had so much fun at the Do Life 5K this morning. The air was cold, the park was lovely and the company was great. (New Yorkers, maybe we should do this kind of thing more often…? What say you?) I figured I could just squeeze in that run and a quick shower before my movers arrived. WELL, life had other plans because they were 45 minutes early! I should have been happy but instead I...

My next blog
will be about minimizing my stuff, not my ass. Tonight was my final rush to pack since I move tomorrow and… I’m going to have to buy another box. There’s no way around it. About an hour ago I realized this, just as I realized I would have to dig out some socks for the Do Life 5K tomorrow because I had already packed mine. (See you there I hope?) I thought I was doing so well,...

“That won’t be enough for dinner.”
– Man who just now caught me making microwave popcorn in the office. So he owes me takeout tonight, right? (Just kidding, I have veggies in the fridge… but I’m hoping I won’t be here that long… I hate you, Powerpoint, and your ass face…)

Losing Weight in the City: How Much Gym is Enough? →
losingweightinthecity: A few weeks ago, a reporter from the New York Times interviewed me for a story about whether “full-service” gyms (i.e. a NYSC or Equinox that offers classes, training, etc.) were enough… I’ve tried lots of classes, both at gyms I’ve belonged to and at other gyms. Ultimately, I stay a member of a “full-service” gym because of that exact full range of services. I...

Veggie Life: Dancing Machines. →
veggielife: Yesterday after work I met up with 94Monkeys for Michael Jackson dance class at Broadway Bodies. I didn’t totally know what to expect, but given how much drunk-me enjoyed doing the “California Gurls” dance at a party for New Year’s Eve I was excited for a little choreography! The first half of the class was a warmup and some cardio to Michael Jackson. The cardio was basic...

Quite frankly part of me still thinks this is an Onion story… yet I will opine as if it were real anyway. I was going to say “I’ll never get one” until I read that iced coffee will be available in that size. I love my iced coffee, so I’m not going to say, categorically, never. I don’t restrict any foods, and I think it could have a place in a healthy diet (even...

Some people I follow on Twitter declared today Positive Day and I’m going along with it. It is not always easy for me to look on the bright side, but I am slowly getting better. Hence: Today is the first day of half-marathon training. In 12 weeks I will be a half-marathoner! In 10 weeks I will have run a 5K in D.C. and hopefully met giveitarun in person.  I went on a fridge-cleaning...

padoeslife: So how is it then, there can be something so totally out of whack as the inequality between the ease in which calories are consumed versus how hard they are to expend?  Now I know I’m not the first or the only one to ponder this — it’s just that today’s treadmill session brought it into painfully clear focus.  Let’s just say, hypothetically, that one could leisurely consume a bowl or...

I’ve been kind of a cranky person lately, but here is an example of what I’m dealing with that is making me this way, lately. Two relevant facts before I get to the story: Until the end of this month I live with 2 roommates, who I found on Craigslist, am not close with and will probably not see again ever. And I’m okay with that. My preferred night-before-long-run food of...

I have been so hungry since my race on Sunday. Some choices I made were good, and some were not so great, but mostly I’m confused. Why now? Is it the cold? Anyway, getting back to better eating this week. And how about a NSV: I bought leather boots and they fit around my calves! My calves were always too big for anything but rainboots. I feel extremely classy and put together, with even a...

Going to try to buy new running shoes tonight
I’ve been putting off this chore for anywhere between 3 weeks and a year, depending on how often you think they should be replaced.
