I need to lose some weight, and the above chart (from runnersworld.com of course) illustrates why. I have at least 5 pounds to lose, probably 10. I am officially eating less sugar and drinking less booze.
Woo, I sound like a ball of fun!!!!!
I don’t want to lose weight specifically to get faster, but this is a great motivator. Personally, the math looks like this:
For my 10K in October I set a stretch goal of dropping 12 minutes from my 10K PR, set in June. Since that PR famously included a bathroom stop, we’ll estimate that I really only have 8 minutes to shave off. Better. I had lost up to 8 pounds since then, hit the skids in August, am now back up to 5 pounds lost since then. If I can get back to 8 and then to 10, that’s just 6 minutes to take off — or a minute per mile — goal less daunting.
Note however that the chart reads, “as long as you have it to lose.” Eating well and working out are good for everybody, though!
stomach (and metabolism),...can run faster -10 lbs.
