Last night I finished the NYRR Emerald Nuts Midnight Run and it… was… insane. When I signed up I expected 15 hardcore runners and a tape deck, only to find probably 6,000 people (plus rubberneckers) on the 72nd Street Transverse. I met up with Runningbeautiful (who rocked the sequins AND the leopard) and crew to watch the costume contest (!) and get all lined up (!!).
Even though it was crowded, there were times I felt all alone in the park with the lights and the night. I know this is some cheesy crap but it allowed me to reflect a little on the year, not only running-wise but life-wise. It was super fun to run in a dress and a headband over my normal gear — I hope I get a Brightroom photo out of it, I was so fashionable for once!
The run wasn’t timed and by my estimate I didn’t PR, but it’s pretty sweet to get the first mileage on the books before even going to bed. Now I’m easing into the day with coffee and a banana (and chatting with a friend who had to work today, poor soul), thinking about my resolutions. I signed up for a free yoga class this afternoon so I will be looking like death, but only in the extremely inflexible sense.
Happy 2011! It’s still so fresh!
