1. The ice bath cometh!

    This morning I ran 16 miles and it was just ok. In my grand tradition of going out too fast, I struggled some in the second half, but finishing up in Prospect Park I was doing pretty well. 

    Toward the end my knee was REALLY giving me trouble and I’m starting to worry. It was hurting a fair bit yesterday before I was even running, too. I got a knee strap and I cut back on some exercises I knew were bothering it (miss you never, reverse lunges off a box) but it’s getting more and more twingey and stiff. I know a lot of these aches are normal, but it shouldn’t hurt when I’m lying flat in bed at night for no reason. Not OK. 

    I really hate that my resolve is only getting stronger in training and I still can’t make my body do everything I want. How rude, body. 

    Speaking of resolve, I finally decided to do an ice bath and I was out in at MOST 5 minutes. I thought my feet were going to fall straight off. At least my roommates got (fully clothed, but hilarious) pictures. I think it helped but you never know. 

    So Tumblr, what should I do to fix my knee? Also can you just hug me and tell me this is all totally normal?

    3. shortmom said: It’s totally normal due to overuse. Only solution is rest.
    4. veggielife said: For me, what helped was rest (I know that’s not much an option for you) coupled with about a week on Aleve (or any antiinflammatory). Post-run, ice for at least 10 mins and take an antiinflammatory. And stretch. And kneestrap.

    6. runningwithguts answered: Knees are so tricky - for me, they only act up when I need new shoes. If I kiss it through the computer screen will it make it better?
    7. fityourlife answered: Sorry about the knee! I’ve been having pain too, but only when running. Also, I’ve been putting off my ice bath - need it but I’m scared!!
