    Notes: 14

Scenario: Running 18 miles tomorrow encompassing a local half-marathon. Should I run before (i.e. end of race means end of run) or run my 5 miles after? I was leaning toward before, but I’m worried that running 5 miles, standing around for a while, then running a half will not prepare me for doing the distance straight through. What would you do?

    1. runtoeatrepeat answered: after! good luck to you babe!
    2. veggielife said: I can’t say from experience, but I feel like even with a bit of a break, 18 miles is still 18 miles. Obviously not a great plan to do a lot of long training runs split up, but I would think that if you get all your miles in it will still prepare you.
    3. misslawson answered: eitherer do it before ot not do them at all and enjoy the race instead.
    4. katiepiemiscellany answered: Run before!
    5. dawnversion2point0 answered: I don’t think I’d run after, just because I’m lazy.

    8. falllingforward said: I’ve done after and would suggest that so you don’t stand around. Just be prepared for it to be tough to get started again after the finish line. But you can do it. Even finish twice for two bananas.
    9. idontgetrunnershigh said: I’ve done that a few times and tried a couple miles before once and then the race didn’t start on time. It stinks running after but it’s more “race like”

    11. runslikeapenguin answered: I second losingweightinthecity.
    12. losingweightinthecity said: That said, I try to time it so I am standing around for the shortest amount of time possible in between.
    13. losingweightinthecity answered: I’ve done both, but I’ve found that while it sucks to stand around a bit in between, it’s so much nicer to just be done.
