GPOYW: My sister and I ran a 5K together last weekend along the water in downtown Brooklyn. The matching pants were on purpose; the very similar shades of green were just a coincidence. (Genetics, right?)
Running with her is just one adventure after another. Can’t wait till we tackle this monstrosity in Washington next month!

Coincidentally, The Clymb is currently offering women’s 7-day surf expedition packages to the same village in Costa Rica we were just in - Santa Teresa on the Nicoya Peninsula.

I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need… unfortunately it’s a $1,500 surfing vacation. (Caipirinha happy hour! Yoga classes! “Professional Surf Photo Session” [LOL]!) I’m going to save up and do this someday though.

    True! Health! Confession!

This week I’m obsessed with the idea of hiking the Camino de Santiago in northern Spain.

This is weird since I haven’t been overnight hiking since 1997, and I wasn’t a huge fan back then. But I figure I can train for that, and I love Spain and monasteries enough to make it worthwhile. I think it’d be really pretty, and also provide a lot of opportunities for soul-searching.

(Is this the kind of insane idea everyone gets during taper?)

  4. September 12: “I’m not going to sign up for any more races till after the marathon. I need a break.”

October 3: Start daydreaming about destination races for 2013. Hey you guys, where are we going?

  5. This time tomorrow, where will we be?

If I could describe my Ragnar packing situation in one word it would be “hilarious.” I am being punished for judging people who overpack while I waltz on with a carry-on bag and a “small personal item that fits under the seat in front of you.” There is SO much stuff. (A lot of it is the reflective vests we need for running at night. Why so bulky, safety equipment?) I’m embarrassed for myself, and yet there’s really nothing I can leave out at this point…

Also, I just found out I am an introvert who is about to spend 2 days in vans with people who I mostly don’t know, and who might not think my jokes are funny. CTRL-Z! CTRL-Z!

I did a mini-taper before this race because I was feeling nervous about my running assignments and picking up an additional one. My legs feel pretty rested now, but will be better after I sit on the plane all day. I hope! Happy Ragnaring to my fellow Napa-ites. See you out there?

  6. Run Ragnar with me?

My team for Ragnar San Francisco-Napa Valley (Sept. 14-15) also featuring Tumblr runner katiewashere needs a few good members. If you’re interested, message me so we can talk about what kind of wine we want to have at the finish and other salient details.

Today’s deskside vacation dream brought to you by the letters R-A-G-N-A-R. Can you guess where I’m (hopefully) going?

Guess what we’ll be doing TWO MONTHS from today, fellas!!!!

Between this, the year of workouts so far and a really fun Tumblr meetup last night, I am feeling super positive about 2012 right now. Don’t you bring me down today! etc.

  9. Hello New England!

I just remembered via conveniently timed reminder email that I signed up for the BAA 10K in Boston on the 26th. Anybody want to hang out? Michelleruns and Thereluctantrunner, you’re in for the 10K, right?

It appears that you can still sign up for this race if you want to get out of town. If you need a reference attesting that I am not a 53-year-old man recently appearing on TV with Chris Hansen I.R.L., I think someone around here will vouch for me…

  10. To do this weekend: Run over the Potomac for the first time!
Detail from the course for the Cherry Blossom 5K this weekend in D.C. There’s also a 10-miler going on, in which runners run over the Potomac and then later onto an island in the Potomac. Oh, you fancy, huh.
